이번 4.3 옥타브의 ‘Until Dawn (새벽까지)’ 는 오직 4.3옥타브 악기만 접할 수 있는 연주자를 위해 편곡되었으며, 원곡 (2019년)과 비교하여 축약되어 있습니다. 원곡 5 옥타브 버전에 비해서, 난이도가 낮으며 내구력이 필요하지 않습니다. 그러나, 상당 부분을 다시 배울 필요없이 5옥타브, 4.3 옥타브에서 자유롭게 연주할 수 있습니다.
‘Until Dawn (새벽까지)’은 5옥타브 마림바를 위한 저의 첫 번째 곡입니다. 2019년 타악기예술국제협회 작곡대회(Percussive Arts Society International Composition Contest)에서 1등을 차지한 작품입니다. 저는 정식 작곡 교육을 받지 않아서, 이곡으로 작곡대회에 참가하는 것을 통해 취미를 벗어나 대학 1학년 학생으로 진지한 음악공부의 시초를 의미합니다.

This version of Until Dawn, adapted for players who might only have access to a 4.3 octave instrument, is slightly abridged compared to the original. There are fewer difficult reaches, and thus it requires less stamina to perform; however, one can easily move between this version and the original without having to re-learn much of the piece.
Until Dawn is the first composition for 5 octave marimba that I’ve written and was the winner of the 2019 Percussive Arts Society International Composition Contest. For me, the piece is a departure from my previous works, which I consider as side projects and never serious. I have no formal education in composition, so entering a composition competition marks the end of music as a hobby, and the ‘dawn’ of studying music seriously going into my first year of university. This piece is quite difficult, and is aimed at advanced-level players with proficiency in double laterals as well as mallet independence.
